if one package is qualified at 260C, does it mean that
package is qualified at 220C or can we extend qualification of 260 to 220 C reflow temp without qual test or rel testing?
do you have reference book that we can look at, or web site
that we can refer to...
Hoping for immediate response..

Hi QTP Girl,
Yup, if everything else is the same (bake conditions/duration, soak temp, soak RH, soak duration, etc.), then you can say that your process can withstand a 220C reflow temp if it has passed the 260C reflow temp. Note that this is only true for the same MSL levels, or if the 260C reflow qual used MSL conditions that are more stringent than those of your 220C reflow process.
Thus, if both reflow temps are for the same MSL level, then I think you're ok. If, let's say, you qual'ed your 260C reflow process under MSL 3, and you're planning to do the 220C reflow process under MSL 1, then your MSL 3 qual data might not be enough. You therefore need to generate additional MSL 1 data for your 220C reflow process under this scenario.

260 can cover 220 provided:
1.0 we are talking of the same package/pin type evaluated
2.0 Same MSL conditions/requirement
3.0 Downgrade of MSL (no upgrading allowed)
4.0 Same BOM |
