We're really lucky the coup ended quickly. And it happened on a weekend so there's no trading on the stock market. I think PSE lost only 27 points and the peso lost only 38 cents today. Its not as bad as I expected. Let's pray for recovery soon.

Hi all,
Strictly speaking, what happened in Oakwood is just a mutiny, not a coup. There was no attempt to unseat the president, but there was clearly an action to rebel against gov't. This is less serious than if Malacanang were attacked directly and fires were shot, so in a way we should be thankful for its quick conclusion.
What I can not take though is the way these young officers are now being paraded as heroes by media. One reporter interviews a teacher of a rebel leader and the teacher responds by hyping up the virtues of her student. After that interview, I'd bet that this rebel leader can win the mayoralty race in his city come 2004.
This gives the wrong message to other disgruntled officers in the active service who did not join this mutiny. I'm sure some of them now see that mutineering does pay.
Enough with this sensationalism, you guys from media. What you should be exposing is the damage that this event has wreaked on our economy, at a time when we're already recovering.
On the positive side, this event has not disheartened Dick Gordon, who still goes about his normal business of promoting Philippine tourism, coup or no coup. Mabuhay ka, Dick!

But if you watched The Correspondents last Monday, you'll really feel sorry for the soldiers. Their issues are very valid. Imagine paying for your own boots so you can fight the enemy. Anyways, I also don't agree with what they did even if they have these issues.

dont be naive, EE. what happened 2 weeks ago is a kudeta that failed, not just a mutiny. its good the reinforcements for the rebels did not make it. the human shields thats supposed to ring Oakwood were stopped on time. without people support, rebels who are assigned to attack other places also decided to back out. these are based on the docs seized from the hideouts of the rebs.

If it's true that the "coup", not mutiny as peacenik has asserted, is only politics in play, what can we expect comes 2004. No wonder we are being left behind by our SEA neighbors; just look at Malaysia...
