I read about MSL page briefly(IPC/JEDEC MSL)
but I still counfused about this
is this (MSL) standard relative to any type of connector?
or it's only for the semiconductor manufacturer process?
because some of our customers ask for a MSL of a pressfit connector is that resonable?
haha there are too many question marks..
anybody gives a helping hand?
I'll be appreciate!!Thanks!!! Wink

Does a D-Sub connector belong to SMDs?
And how about memory cards connectors?
these are SMT type.

How you define "package"
I suppose that shoud only for the semiconductor
not for the connectors which are soldering on the PCB board .
Am I wrong?
I have no ideal with SMDs
please kindly let me know about this
thanks!!

Guest, no, your connectors are not SMD's. SMD stands for 'surface-mount device.' It refers to the chips that you attach on the surface of your boards. These SMD's must pass the MSL requirements of J-Std-20 like what the other guest said.

So why is you customer asking for an MSL for your connector? Because he wants to solder your connectors to your boards at the same time as your SMD's. He is asking if your connectors can survive the SMD profiles.

Here's what you need to do: get a copy of J-Std-020 and study the temp profiles there. From these info, determine for yourself if your connectors can withstand the profiles. We can not help you beyond this because most of the visitors here are into semicon devices, not connectors.
