Socketed CDM (SDM) simulates CDM ESD by inserting a device in a socket, then charging it from a high voltage source, and discharging it through a 1-ohm R.
Non-socketed or Robotic CDM (RCDM) testing involves putting the DUT in deadbug position on a thin dielectric (FR4) which is placed over a ground plate. The DUT is charged either directly by a charging probe or indirectly by field induction.
