| in our company test guys have higher pay than assembly guys. is this true in other semicon companies? why? maybe test guys can answer.

| it depends what area of test you are handling for high speed testing, yes they are high paying compare to assembly guys but for discretes low pay.

simple lang ang sagot sa lahat ng tanong mo..... Kasi ang test engr sila ang nagdadala ng mga sicreto ng mga device nila, at mahirap kumuha ng full blooded na test engr. HEHEHEHE! |

| Test eng'rs are being paid higher compared sa assembly kasi ito yung focus ngayon sa philippines.... During the 1980's yung mga chip companies are sourcing out yung assembly outside their country for a lower costs. ngayon sa test na focus and somehow or slowly sa test development....... Honestly ang disappointment lang sa Assembly sa Philippines is parang hindi umusad in terms of Material research.... More on packaging kasi ito eh.... Before tayo yung center ng assembly sa Asia but hindi natin napabuti..... Ni wala atang na patentang pinoy sa field na ito..... View ko lang ito ha. Hopefully sa test maka usad tayo......

| i think another reason why test enggs might get higher pay is because they have product knowledge w/c assembly enggs don't have (please correct me if i'm wrong). in assembly engineering, one can do his job without knowing how the end product works.
in the backend stage of the IC manufacturing process, test operations serve as the products' final electrical quality check before going to the customer. so in the end, one of test engg's (and product engg's as well) job is to make the customer happy by making sure the part meets data sheet electrical requirements, and for the case of customer returns, determine any corrective actions needed if test related. So if there were any assembly related problems, test should be able to screen it out. |

| I agree another reason is I think the law of supply and demand assembly technology are somehow generic. Ang SOIC naman ng Cypress ay SOIC din ng Analog diba and ang PLCC ng ON Semi ay PLCC din sa Fairchild... So kung ikaw yung hiring manager maraming pool of engineers available. Unlike sa Test although lets sa same ATE ang gamit and same test methods ang ginamit but the fact na may mga proprietary secrets ng involve so mas nakakangat ang test. |

| On most cases, yes, test guys have higher pay than assembly guys. you know why, usually its the test guys that deals with the problem with products going out. it's the test guys that cleans up the mess of assembly guys. assembly guys are routine. test guys are analytical. there are maybe a hundred type of packages , but there are a thousand types of products -- ass. guys deals with a hundred packages, but test guys deals with a thousand parts.
But in our company it is not clear if its that way. Maybe because ass. guys are older. They are paid higher. As for the test guys, the pay is lower. But there is one thing that I am very sure. Ass. managers are more ompetent than test heads and managers in our company! do you know that... ...our dept mgr has a K_B_T? ...our section heads plays around with heads? ...our section heads doesn't know how our work gets done? ...our section heads gets more pay than all the assembly guys! ...samantalang kami, mababa lang po ang appraisal. ...hay buhay. ...tsismosa pa ang isang section head sa HR, sumbongera ...marami na nagresign sa amin since last year? (ha...mag 50 na ata!!!... ihanap mo naman kami o.... ) Bato bato sa langit ang tamaan wag magalit.... |

Know what? Hindi naman mararating ng boss mo ung kinatatayuan nya ngayon, kung hindi rin sya nag-hirap noon. Marahil hindi nga nya alam ang ginagawa nyo, in a sense na, high tech na ngayon ang late na ung tech nya.... hehehehehe! matanda na siguro. Anyway, Section head are not like Sr. Engr. or Fellow Engr. Syempre management type of work ang ginagawa nya. This is just to ease your anger to your boss. Ganyan din ako noon, Galit sa boss. Pero thru time naunawaan ko din. I'n not telling you to accept the thing they are. They're not the one need to change. Instead, change your self. Be competative, Hindi lang sa bagay na alam mo. Kaya ng Engineer ka eh! To design, study and improve hindi, To destroy, To Criticized and Tumunganga at magalit sa boss mo. Balang araw, magiging ganyan ka rin sa kanya at ung subordinate mo rin ang magagalit at magcri-criticized syo. Sana, Magbago ang pananaw mo sa buhay, tungkol sa boss mo. Tungkol naman sa tsismosa, hayaan mo na yun. Sarili lang nila ang sinisira nila. Tingnan mo, sira na sya sa paningin mo at sa paningin ng mga co-worker mo dyan. Tungkol naman sa high payed assembly guys. Syempre mataas na sweldo nila, dahil sa gurang na sila... hehehehe! Anyway, mataas naman ang demand sa Test guys compared sa mga assembly guys. Hindi man mataas ang sweldo mo dyan, Tataas din yan paglipat mo. Dapat mo nga lang tandaan, na kung ano ang nakita mong culture dyan sa present work place mo. Ganun din sa iba.
