According to a recent Pulse Asia survey, 1 out of every 4 Filipinos will leave the Philippines for good if given the chance. Bunye said that this is good, because it means that 3 out of 4 Filipinos will opt to stay here, even if given the chance to live abroad. Point well taken.
Then again, Singaporeans are no longer required to get a visa when going to the US because ALL of them would rather live in Singapore than the US. More and more Malaysians are beginning to feel that way too.
So why would a Pinoy want to leave for good? It’s not the politicking because we ourselves love to listen to these clowns when they gorge on each other. Not poverty either because the happiest Pinoys are those who subsist on a day-to-day basis. Peace and order? Maybe. But where will you go? Washington DC, the murder capital of the world? Traffic? Pollution? Corruption? Not enough for a hasty adieu.
Perhaps it’s the composite of all these things affecting the middle class. Thus, my theory is that the ready-to-fly 25% are mainly middle-class Pinoys who finished school (and therefore qualify for a job abroad) but who no longer see any opportunities here.
Since we want more and more Pinoys to finish schooling, what we want to alter is the mindset that there are no more opportunities hereabouts. I think this is a gross misperception. Opportunities for middle-class entrepreneurs abound here, if you ask me. Just look at Reyes Hair Cutters. What we simply need is self-confidence in being Pinoys.

EE,
I agree with you that most of the people in the middle class would rather try their luck abroad and that's explainable. The A and B citizens will stay here as long as they see the situation is perfect for them. The system works for the rich so why would they leave? But guess what, some of these people are ready to fly-out once the country's situation becomes uncontrollable. Ika nga, "wala na akong mapapakinabangan dito...".
For the people in the middle class leaving is really for the opportunity to earn and live their dreams that they believe cannot be achieved here or, achievable but will take a much longer time in a more risky atmosphere.
I cannot blame the people in the middle class leaving the country with reasons as I mentioned. But again, as you have said, the opportunity also abound here in our land.
Whatever they do or say, there is no sweeter place like home....
...and I believe I have not lost that Pinoy Pride.

Given the chance, I could be the "1" out of the 4 Filipinos who would readily leave the country. But then, one could not say that I've lost my Pinoy pride. I'm still proud to be a Pinoy but circumstances dictate that going out of the country would be the best choice for me and my family.
Believe it or not, this sometimes makes me feel guilty...I would just like to share this from one email I got cause while reading this, I was with mixed feelings...offecnded, angry and being "pinoy", find this "funny"...This may be a bit long but worth reading and contemplating on...

Hi Guest,
Pasensya ka na if I had to replace the article you attached with a link instead. Masyadong mahaba kasi yung article eh. Also, parang hindi na natin dapat pang bigyan ng pansin yang Anastacio na 'yan. Although all of what he said is true, wala siyang K na laitin tayong mga Pilipino dahil isa na siyang dayuhan. Instead of feeling bad about what he said, let's all just move forward collectively.
