Assy Engr 2,

Wearing the right kind of socks with conductive shoes is, in fact, what you must do. The sock absorbs sweat from the foot, forming a sweat layer that provides the conductive path from the foot of the person to the insole of the shoe. This is all the conductivity you need to prevent you from charging up statically.

Without socks, a person with sweaty feet will find it difficult to make the shoes pass conductivity checks, registering resistance readings less than the minimum spec. This is also dangerous, in the same way that a person wearing wet shoes can get severely electrocuted if he/she inadvertently touches a live circuit.

Cotton socks are believed to be the best socks for conductive shoes. A fresh pair may be quite resistive, but the sweat layer formed 2 hours after they’re worn (enough time given Manila traffic) would be perfect for your job.
