| If you’re looking for a sport for your children, Taekwondo would be one of my suggestions to you. Taekwondo (just like any other martial art) teaches your children discipline and keeps them in good physical shape. More than that, however, it gives your children a chance to achieve something and feel proud about it.
Yesterday, we spent 6 hours at the Philippine Taekwondo Headquarters. The reason: we watched 3 kids take the promo test that would usher them into the elite circle of black belt taekwondo jins. I can still remember when these kids were much smaller and still practicing the simple 45’s. Now they’re doing jumping turning long kicks with ease, and their parents can’t help but gleam with pride. Nine promotions are needed from white to black – low yellow, high yellow, low blue, high blue, low red, high red, low brown, high brown, then black. If you’re planning to have only 1 promo every summer, a black belt would need about 9 years. However, you can cut this down to 3 years if you can manage 3 promos in a year. That’s a promo every 4 months. This, however, would entail non-stop 2X a week sessions. So it really depends on you kung gaano ito katagal matatapos. Discipline talaga ang kailangan. EE |
