I must be very careful here. I have a lot of really good friends and relatives who now reside in the US, and I can confidently say that the issue at hand does not apply to them.

I recently came across an article wherein a supposedly Pinoy who has immigrated to the US came back to 'Pinas after 20 years. They tried life here in the islands but decided to just go back to the US again after 6 months. That would have been fine ... if the story ended there. But what I could not swallow is that they ridiculed the Filipinos before leaving, saying that we are hopeless because after 20 years, we were not able to move the Philippines even an inch forward.

Well, excuse me, sir, but I think the reason why this has some tinge of truth to it is because of people like you. You leave the country after getting your education, live a good life in another country, and expect to go back to a paradise after 20 years? OK lang sa akin na mag-immigrate ka, only don't tell me that you did better than us because we stayed behind. Going abroad did not make you superior. It made you arrogant.

Now let me clarify that there is nothing wrong with immigrating. Global na tayo. Even I have contemplated to do the same many times in the past. In fact, I have agreed to my wife's suggestion to try to submit an application to immigrate. The difference is that I am not going to say anything bad about Pinoys who stayed behind once I leave.

After all, men who jump ship have no right to complain about waves made by the sinking ship.

Well, I believe that's what we call freedom of speech. EE, I know sometimes the truth hurts and in this case, he is definitely telling the truth. EDSA 1 and 2 in some way are considered miraculous but both failed to change the Filipinos for the better. If two miracles didn't move us, nothing else will?

But the best way to refute his remark is to point out that many Filipinos have become successful here. Just look at the semicon employees who struck gold..............

To those of us who still did not give up hope, lets do our own little way of helping our country. It might not be big enough to be a miracle but as long as there are still people like us, there is still hope...

Wow, I'm surprised to see an idealist in this forum. I can see your still young and probably fresh out of school. Otherwise, you're just delusional. Yeah, you can do your little thing and it will not be long, your name will be your destiny......

Agree with EE and Boy Tumba!!!

The last two things we should do are:
1. leave our country.
2. if we leave, despise and abandon totally our country.

This means we can leave, why not? We can work and earn dollars, but are we going to live forever? Isnt it better to see something noble happens with what we have worked for if we can in our lil ways help our brothers/sisters/parents/relatives/friends/countrymen so that our country can move "an inch" forward?

Dont you want to see this country change?

You would have countered with "as long as the people in power dont change, our country will never change!"

Change will not happen overnight. Generations move forward! Let's work hard now in changing the paradigm, work habits, values, and character in our own generation so that when our time comes...Philippines will never be the same again.

If we can encourage every institution to adopt this - "Start the changes in your generation, and realize these changes when the time for your generation to serve comes!"

Remember - the "perceived" majority may be doing things the way they should not be done...but since they are the ones in power, there's lil we can do. Let's start now, group, and let the people know that the real majority wants changes...and if we start now, we can have them in 6-9 years...

wanna go for a ride....
