Hello everyone,
Below is an excerpt from an email I got from a friend who now resides in Massachussetts. I think it's a good insight into what our country needs.

I'm creating a short email for LZ and CQ about our short discussion that night. If you read the articles on the major technology sites. One of the key metric in the technical capability of the country is the number of design engineers per company and the number of that company. Another one is the number of design-outs and design wins. All of our neighbours are in it except us (we have zero). The local schools can't produce design engineers. They just don't have the tools to use.
The biggest challenge now is China is very close to Taiwan in terms of number of design engineers and design companies. The universities in China are producing design engineers. They have the tools in the school. And what make it worst is they are very cheap. The Chinese gov't is already funding a standard microprocessor for Chinese government. Something to make them distinct and some degree of isolation from hackers of common market software. It may or may not fly but the program and technology development is there.
If this don't get the proper focus from the gov't , local industry, and local Universities the country will continue to fall behind....
You can't market something you don't have ....TJ Rogers thesis is the cmos process design used for the 1st generation product of Cypress. Andy Grove, and Bob Noyce were all technologist. Bob Noyce patented the first IC after working at Bell Labs to develop the 1st transistor. Andy Grove is a PHD in Physics.
I'm sure there will be application for local market. Mon Castillo's business is a model for local technology Entrepreneur .
As a whole the gov't need to evolve from the era of the CARABAO to mechanization and technology development.
History is very consistent. Every since , the country that has the most technology is the power ....Why is Intel the King of Semiconductors today? Intel is the biggest technology spender since mid 80's.

Biz Wiz,
Mon is someone we knew from our Intel days many years ago. As a young engineer he resigned from Intel and founded his own company, Innovatronix (see www.innovatronix.com). During his first 8 months he only earned P250, according to him. Then he got a big break when he built huge scoreboards for the 1993 SEA Games, I think. After that he never looked back, and went on to do a lot of subcontracting for the industry. He also built off-the-shelf products that now sell well in malls.
His is a success story worth retelling. His business model: just find out what the local market needs and develop the product to satisfy it - pretty much what other successful businessmen also do.
Keep on posting!

yeah...his success story is gud, bt his biz model is nt d same as wat made US a superpower. the guys dat founded intel, microsoft etc. looked at wat the world and future needs, not jst the local market. i agree with ndr dat the more PhDs we hv the better 4 us. but who will hire them here?
